Heart of Hope. {Maternity Photography}

“Sloan is going to be a very special girl, who was picked for a special purpose.”

There are people in this world with an incredible amount of strength and grace. Robyn and Kyle are two of those people. Shortly after Robyn’s 20 week ultrasound, they learned their little baby girl, Sloan, had a serious congenital heart defect. Her exact diagnosis is tricuspid atresia, VSD and transposed great arteries. For treatment Sloan will need to go through a series of open heart surgeries.  One will take place shortly after birth, within the first week.  The second will take place around four to six months and the third (and hopefully last) will take place around two years old. This heart defect occurs in less than 1% of babies born each year.

When Robyn explained to me some of the obstacles of this pregnancy and some of the possible circumstances to come, I was so impressed by her resolve. She has an amazing sense of calm about what is to come despite the struggles they could possibly face. More than anything, she expressed several times what a special girl Sloan is and how they are so excited to get to know her. There is absolutely no doubt, Sloan will be loved to pieces and be supported by a pillar of strength in her family.

Her big brother Drake is very excited to meet her too!

When I asked Robyn if she would mind if I shared their story she said, “I would be more than happy to have you share our story on your blog.  Having gone through this, I understand just how much support and hearing others stories can help.  It’s amazing something that has a <1% chance of occurring has effected so many people.  It’s opened my eyes to a whole different outlook on many things.”

If I have learned anything from working with families like Robyn’s and others who have face some of the worst possible parenting obstacles it is that life is not perfect, but it is beautiful. Its always remembering, like Sloan, we are very special people, who were picked for a special purpose. Thank you so much to Robyn, Kyle, and Drake for sharing your personal story. I can not wait to meet Sloan and document her special first year with you all. If you would like to continue following Sloan’s story or more information about Tricuspid Atresia, please check out Robyn’s blog Sloan’s Heart of Hope.

You might remember this sports enthusiast from his newborn session.

Bright eyed at four months.

Beach fun at eight months.

And now really able to start practicing his football skills at his one year session.

Big throws!

You have to have a little cake smash too!

So, so much change during the first year! Thank you for sharing this time with us!
